Temporary subway closure in Northwich
The subway at the junction of Watling Street and Chester Way in Northwich – opposite the Seafarer – will be closed to the public from Wednesday 1 July to allow essential maintenance work to take place.
The subway will be closed for up to six weeks as the Council’s Highways Team carries out concrete repairs.
Local Councillor Sam Naylor said: “Although this subway is well used, disruption and inconvenience to pedestrians will be minimised thanks to the recently installed pedestrian crossing facilities at road level.
“The crossing was installed as part of regeneration work in Northwich, and it now provides a direct link between Memorial Court and the town centre.
“These works have also been co-ordinated to begin after the completion of Memorial Court, to ensure that there was no conflict with pedestrian movements.
“The works will also include the application of anti-slip coating on all areas that are undercover, to improve safety for the public.”
The work will take approximately ten weeks to complete, but the subway will only be closed for the first six weeks due to the nature of the work required. The repairs may generate considerable dust and debris.
Signage on site will give advance notice of the subway closure.
